From the mountainous region in the central district, to the lowland river catchments area on the Pacific coast, Guatemala is a stunningly beautiful country.

First night in the Intercontinental Hotel in Guatemala City will help you unwind from International travel, with restaurant, bar, gym, massage and business facilities available. The next morning you will be picked up in the lobby by a Sail Fish Bay representative and taken over the mountains and down to historic Antigua, one of the best preserved Spanish colonial settlements anywhere in Central America. After a few hours strolling around this 500 year old village and a little lunch, your driver will continue to Sail Fish Bay Lodge close to Puerto San Jose on the Pacific Coast.

Robert Fallon, owner and lodge manager will be there to greet you as you transfer from car to boat for a short 5 minute ride down the river to the lodge. A cold cocktail will be waiting for you on arrival and before settling into your room a quick tour around the grounds will give you sneak peek at the incredible pool, bar and lounge area with a vista over the Pacific Ocean.

The target species for your trip are Sail Fish and the warm currents off the coast are home to the most prolific breeding ground for Pacific Sails anywhere in the world. In fact 10-15 Sail Fish per day per boat is common with catches in excess of 70 in one day!!! With acrobatic leaps and long runs any angler on fly or conventional gear is assured a great battle with one of the top sports fish.

The lodge has all the necessary fishing gear, but for the fly fisherman who is taking rods, 12-14 weights are recommended. Other species you can expect to catch are Maui Maui up to 40lb, Tuna, Dorado, Blue and Black Marlin and a host of other pelagic fish.
