Fishing – Patagonia Adventures

Fish About Tours in early 2006 opened up destinations to the “Lake District” in Argentina and Chile, through Patagonia Adventures in El Bolson, Argentina. Kent Schoenauer owner and head guide runs the family business and although a born and raised American gives over 25 years experience to the local waterways in this magnificent area nestled in the heart of the Andes Mountains.

Our packages include:

Alerces Park, Argentina

This beautiful fishery is set amongst forest and mountain vistas, offering lake, river and spring creek fishing from December through May. Peak season for dry fly, especially in the lakes, is January to late March with fantastic opportunities also in the spring creeks using small nyphs and wets.

The accommodation is a magnificent wooden lodge with all the usual luxuries, famous for local Argentine dishes which consist mainly of tender world famous beef from the Pampas farming region and mouth watering deserts for those not worried about the waist line! International dishes also serve all palates with local vegetarian and fruit plates served straight from local market gardens.

Just across the border from El Bolson and only accessible by boat is the Lago Puelo Lodge. Patagonia Adventures premier spot, this family style lodge is set above the river, accommodating up to 6 anglers comfortably. A new larger wooden lodge is being built for beginning of 2007 which will add another dimension to the property.

The fishing is superb with regular hauls of 15-25 trout in a days outing on the River or Lake, using dry fly, stripping wets or throwing lures into the deep pools. The most startling thing about this fishery is the complete lack of other anglers – you would be hard pressed to see another human let alone another fisherman!

Another great option at Lago Puelo is the “Salmon Camp” for those wanting a more rustic, Andean experience.

Ecuador Galapagos Islands Fishing AdventuresAbout a 3 hour horse back ride (or 45 minute boat) from the main lodge is the Camp, set on the banks for the river amongst the forest. At different times from December to May the Salmon run straight past the camp topping 25lbs and destroying fishing gear for the unsuspecting angler.

Monster Browns and Rainbows are also bagged at the Camp and makes a great combination package with the Lodge.

Lago Puelo also offers horse-back riding for the non-fisherman, with half-day and full-day rides available back into the mountains above the lodge.
