Reports: Fishing Off Exmouth - Sal Salis, Wild Bush Luxury Fishing Camp - 25-7-11
The American couple Pam and John and their daughter Amber booked a half day fishing the day after the recent full moon. It was a beautiful day with not much swell or wind and we could see for miles. We found some striped tuna surface feeding on some really small larval baitfish, so small they were see through.
This meant the tuna were very hard to catch because we did not have any lure that was both small enough and that we were able to cast. After a lot of casts John finally got one, and they sure put up a good fight for there size.
As this was just not working for us, I decided to go just past the south passage in the hope of finding some Spanish mackerel. We put out two halco deep divers, Jim rigged up one of this famous gar fish and we were set to go.

The rods had not been in the water long when the beautiful sound of a screaming drag got every one back on their toes! Unfortunately we lost this fish, so the rods were put back out and we returned to the waiting game. Next one of the deep divers got smashed andthe line was peeling at a rapid rate off the little spin outfit. Amber was onafter a lot of coaching from her dad which was lots of fun to watch!
Not long and we had a nice spanish mackerel swimming next to the boat. We got it up in to the boat for some photos and sent him on his way. Not much later and Pam was on to a yellow fin tuna, and this one got followed to the boat by a big shark.

The Tuna was probably happy to be in the boat at that stage, especially after we put it back to catch another day!
In the end it was a really good half day, we saw lots of hump back whales, turtles and a manta ray then ended up back at our mooring for sun set drinks!
