It's All About
Here comes the Build Up
August is the time of the year we Love to Hate! The humidity is well and truly on it's way and water temps are about to start to move rapidly in the Barra direction.
This change in seasons is almost like a run-off with out the rainfall, Saltwater Barra have made there move back into the estuary's of the big river systems and all of the resident river and Billabong fish start to get hungry again.
The bigger saltwater models start to hunt the estuary mouths, rocky headlines and reef systems around big creek and river mouths. The neap Tides make for some great casting action in these areas.
The flats in and around places like Shoal Bay and Darwin Harbour are prime targets for low tide drain action as well.
Talking about Billabong action....John Bouter guided two groups last month on the exclusive Billabongs of Labelle Station return cricket scores of Barra with many great fish in the high 60's and 70's sliding into the net. All of this action was mostly on surface lures making the fishing even more exciting. I think the numbers John was touting were in the 100's which is pretty impressive
The Daly is still the signature Barra river this year (it is most years) with great results coming from our last lot of day trips this year.
Darbs and good mate Shane Curry had a 2 day Barra Bash on the Daly to finish the season this year and returned 118 fish for their efforts. 60 of the fish were between 60cm up to 80cm, how good is that river? I think Shane got Darbs on the numbers but fell short on the quality.
