We have been getting some spectacular king fishing of late and , hopefully , with the late start to the season we will get a late finish, taking the warm water and kings right through to June. This is the time of year for bigger than average kings and an addition to tactics. While I'm generally a strong proponent of fresh squid for bait, big Kings do develop a hankering for garfish at this time of year. This is not surprising given that we get a good run of gar in the harbour about now.

You will…

This past season has produced the wettest, nastiest weather I can ever remember. The ocean currents have been all over the shop and water temps have constantly fluctuated between 19 and 24 degrees. Every time the water looks like cleaning up, down comes another big brown flush from upstream. It's been windy and cold with regular big seas. It's testing angler's patients to the limits, to say the least, but there is an upside.

What a good flush does, apart from turning the system upside down for a…

There have been quite a few Whaler sharks getting around in the harbour this march.

A combination of lots of fresh, dirty water and plenty of bait have created the ideal conditions for them.

For more information on shark charters please contact us on (02) 8922 2651

What a bizarre summer season this one has been to date. Water temps have struggled to get up to their summer averages and every time they look like getting there either a cold eddie sweeps through from the ocean or a flush of cold rain comes down from upstream . The weather and sea conditions have been is probably the worst I can remember in 20 years of guiding. In a one week span I heard of a cobia and a Maori rock cod, both sub tropical species and personally caught a john dory, a renowned winter…

After a very slow start to the season the surface fish have finally arrived with a vengeance. The action went from virtually nothing to carnage over two days. Salmon are working hard on top with the bonito around and underneath them and trevs sitting even deeper again. Scattered over a large area are hordes of bonnies working singly or in small schools. A bit further into the harbour, the tailor are on the job. Shack bay and Washaway beach have bonito and up around Goat Island there is a mix of all…
